Welcome to Montreux
Montreux is situated on the northern shore of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), in the very heart of the area known as the “Vaudois Riviera”. The attractions of the Montreux region have been recognised since the “Belle Epoque” at the end of the XIX century and the area started to develop at that time owing to an increase in tourism and thanks to its favourable micro-climate. However, the town only became known as “Montreux” from 1961 onwards, when the Communes of Châtelard and Les Planches joined forces to create the Commune de Montreux.
Montreux is also famous for its excellent international schools and boarding schools such as the Hotel Schools of Glion, HIM and SHM which figure among the best Hotel Schools in the world. Every year several thousand school pupils and students from all over the world arrive in Montreux to study. |
